Upcoming 2020 Fall Litters

Our girl Desert Wind’s Princess Minderina and our big chocolate boy Desert Wind Fudge Mountain
have been successfully paired and so we are excited to be expecting their AKC litter of American Field Lab pups the first week in November! They should have chocolate and white chocolate pups. What a great way to kick off the holiday season!

We now have confirmed pairings of our girl Desert Wind Katie’s Reflection Katie and our boy Desert Wind’s Raging River  which means their AKC litter should be born on or around November 18th and have classic yellows, blacks, chocolates and white chocolate puppies.

Upcoming 2020 Winter Litter

Still looking for Sundae to start her heat cycle for her Winter litter …

RESERVE DEPOSIT STATUS:  All Reserves are currently closed on the Fall /Early Winter/Winter Litters above as of September 18th.  Once the litters have arrived and all Reserves are fulfilled, any puppies available will be posted.

Just a bit about the process …

All Desert Wind Labrador litters are born in our home with us in attendance. Although most of our girls are very self sufficient and need little assistance some need more paw holding. Either way we stay with them to help is necessary. When the litter arrives we typically wait 24-48 hours to make sure Momma and babies are all doing well. Then we send out an Email Birth Announcement with first pictures.

NOTE: During the Covid 19 time of restrictions all Open House Events and Facility Visits are on hold.  Once we get past the time of lockdown we will re-evaluate how best to host such gatherings.  Thank you for your understanding.

When the litter is about 4 weeks old we host an Open House Event which is the first opportunity for the family or individuals who have reserve deposits on the puppies to come visit. It is usually on a Saturday. This is typically when the selection process takes place and final payments are made as well as additional services such as Micro Chipping and Training are discussed.

Puppies are weaned and ready to go at 49 days old (if shipping is necessary, 8 weeks). If you decide to pick up your puppy or have him/her delivered, we can usually do this between the 7th and 8th week.

There is a lot of discussion and some “experts” advise bringing your puppy home at 7 weeks. This is a generalization for all puppies and not necessarily pertinent to Labrador Retrievers. It all depends on how the litter is managed from birth until the puppy is placed in a home. The main concern seems to be nurturing and socialization.

At the Desert Wind we handle the puppies from birth so we are actively involved in their nurturing and socialization from the very beginning. This allows us to observe their interaction and sometimes intervene to assist the weaker pups with getting the proper nutrition and personalized attention.  All our puppies come with a Limited AKC or CKC registration,  Health Record showing their first shots and parasite treatments, and a 1 year Written Guarantee against genetic defects (eye and hip). For Full Kennel Club Registration there is an additional $500 fee.

Prices are as follows: All Puppies with Limited Registration – All colors – Male or Female are $1250. With Full Registration with Breeding Rights – All colors – Male or Female are $1750

The only difference in the 2 registrations is the Breeding Rights, either way the pup is 100% registered to you and 100% purebred Labrador retriever.
